Today, Nate explores getting happy. “Let’s start living,” he urges. He lists the causes of unhappiness: overworking, poor diet, no routine, staying inside, not allowing yourself to feel too much, social media, not getting ready for the day, and skipping self-care. Those same areas serve as starting points on your road to happiness. Nate then lists ways to increase your happiness: make time for self-care, practice gratitude every day, consistently exercise, get outdoors daily, find your tribe, find a way to give back, and develop a spiritual practice.
He poses some questions: Is your life an endless to-do list? And does completing that to-do list really fulfill you or make you feel good in the moment? But is tomorrow filled with yet another to-do list? What if you had no to-do list? These questions can help you identify what is actually fulfilling for you. But to take action to use those identifications to make yourself happier requires courage. Nate then outlines the steps for happiness goal scenarios. Step one: identify and understand what you want to change. Step two: rid your life of negativity. Step three: exercise more often. Step four: be kind to others. Step five: build a support network. Step six: eliminate the non-essentials. And step seven: take baby steps. He outlines some methods of self-accountability in enacting these steps, like using post-it notes to remind yourself of your goals. Nate shares some of his own goals he set for himself, and how he worked to achieve them. He reminds listeners of the importance of modifying your goals so that they feel achievable to the stage of life you are in, and to be deliberate in your actions. He challenges listeners to pick one or two things to invest more time into in building your happiness, adding that he hopes you take on a stretch goal. Key Topics:

This is episode 7. Our topic is: Getting Happy Announcement! If you are not aware of your pending mortality, you are not paying attention to the game of life! Why shuffle through life, bummed and blaming, burned out and blah. C’mon my brothers and sisters. Don’t live a half life. Get alive! Get off that couch. Get off that laptop. Get out of that house. Stop scrolling, start living. Some quotes: Paul Arden It's better to regret what you have done than what you haven't. Mark Twain: The Fear of Death Follows From The Fear of Life. A Man (lets jus say person) who lives fully is prepared to die at any time. Wayne Dyer: Don’t die with your music still in you. The starting step to living your own life is figuring out what is important to YOU. Not what is important to your family, or your life partners, or your employer. What is important to you? What brings you joy? Are you living towards that joy, or are you living the life you think you are supposed to live? Here are poor habits that can increase your unhappiness (SOURCE: authenticallydell.com) https://authenticallydel.com/causes-of-unhappiness/
1.Identify and understand what you want to change. ... 6. Eliminate the non essentials 7.Take baby steps 1.Identify and understand what you want to change. ... Get crystal clear on this. Write it down and post it in your car, on your bathroom mirror, your fridge. Remind yourself that it is YOUR life, and it is up to YOU, only YOU, to make your life what you want. Don’t put it on other people. Don’t blame other people. Take the ownership and accountability that YOU hold the keys. My things I wanted to change in my life included: ● More time and connection with people that bring me joy. ○ My action: Commit to getting up early 4 days a week to surf with friends. ● A creative outlet that I could look forward to (not my day job) ○ My action: Start a podcast. Find my voice. Find my audience. Keep it playful ● More abundance in my life ○ Seek advice from experts, with regards to finances and owning your own business. Take the steps to invite more wealth into my life 6. Eliminate the non essentials. Get focused. Strip away all non essential items. For me, I wanted to launch this podcast. To do that, while maintaining a full time job, I needed to make choices. The only way a goal comes to life is if you feed it time, energy and focus. And we all have only so much time, energy and focus to give each day. So, you have to start prioritizing and let things go. I drastically reduced my TV time. I blocked access to my couch so I wouldn’t flop down and turn on the tv. I wouldn’t allow myself to lay down until AFTER 8 pm. I shut off my phone. I stopped several of my evening social activities. I put headphones on and blocked out all the distractions surrounding me in my home. I kept my recording microphone ON, so I could see the green light of my microphone every time I walked past my desk. A siren song winking at me - daring me to come over and talk to it. I kept a google doc open on my laptop, also always on, with NEXT EPISODE as the title. When you sweep away the mental clutter and set the table to do your work... the creative energies will land on you. One sentence becomes a page, and a page becomes a chapter. Momentum builds. PRESTO! I found myself devoting 10 hours a week to my podcast, without any measurable sacrifices to relationships, work, or health. YES, I had the advantage that my children MOVED OUT this year, giving me a new found block of time to myself. I spent three days feeling sad and lonely... and then I got to work. 7.Take baby steps I’ve always had plenty of drive and ambition, so getting started on a project is not hard of rme. The work for me with “baby steps” was to be deliberate and thorough, and not “wing it” or get bored and quit. Keep taking steps. Be disciplined in feeding the goal with my time, energy and focus. Getting started brought up financial fear, as I had to spend some money on equipment, software, tax advice and setting up business accounts. My ego was quick to tell me to “just make it a hobby. Don’t try to make money.” But, why do it half assed? I had to face my money shadow that was not willing to invite success into my life, and instead discount my own dreams as “not important”. HELL NO! What is a stretch goal you can take for yourself to add more happiness in your life. Hint, it usually isn’t money.
